The Tau Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority®, Incorporated was chartered in 1993 by women with the mission to serve mankind. Tau Phi Omega recognizes the academic achievement of High School Seniors attending Matoaca High School ~ Chesterfield, County Virginia and acknowledges them by awarding financial scholarship to deserving a student. To date the ladies of Tau Phi Omega continue to serve mankind with a variety of community service initiatives and partnerships instituted by the current international administration.
Scholarship Requirements:
Applicant must be an outstanding college bound woman of African-American or Minority descent who will graduate high school in the spring of 2018. The applicant must possess a 2.5 grade point average or higher and will be attending a four year institution in the Fall of 2018. The scholarship will be awarded based upon their application, individual academic achievement, contribution to their school and the Greater Chester/Matoaca Community.

Two letters of recommendation. One must be from a teacher, principal or counselor and the other from the community such as a minister, employer or community leader.

Typed essay of 500 words that includes information pertaining to your future goals, aspirations, and how the scholarship will assist in those endeavors. Comment on any work experience and/or community service which addresses how you provide service to others.
Once the applications are reviewed, applicants selected to move forward in the application process will be contacted via mail or telephone for an in-person interview.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) was founded on a mission comprised of five basic tenets that have remained unchanged since the sorority’s inception more than a century ago. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind."
The Anna Elnora Owens Scholarship is given in honor of a beloved member who rendered outstanding service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Through the Anna Elnora Owens scholarship, we hope to encourage you to pursue your future academic endeavors and flourish in your post-secondary academics.
